Teen Suspect In East Patchogue Ambush Slaying Nabbed After Nearly Year-Long Investigation

A Bellport teenager is in police custody after being charged in connection to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old East Patchogue teen whose father found him dead outside their home, police said.

Melquisedec Antonio Sanchez-Hernandez, 17, was arrested on Monday, May 20 and is expected to be arraigned on a murder charge on Tuesday for his role in the death of Emilio Sanchez Maldonado in the early hours of July 3 last year.

Following a nearly yearlong investigation, Sanchez-Hernandez was busted this week while he was walking in North Bellport shortly before 6:45 a.m. on Monday., May 20. The two teens reportedly knew one another before Sanchez-Hernandez shot and killed his victim in an “ambush-style” attack.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police noted. It is unclear if there were others involved in the fatal shooting.
